Aluminum Flashings

MRC Roofing uses aluminum flashings whenever possible. Aluminum roof accessories tend to last as long as the new high-quality roofing that is installed these days. The same can not be said for galvanized or rubber roof accessories, such as pipe vent flashings for plumbing or drip edges at the eaves.

Aluminum is a high-quality metal that outperforms regular steel and galvanize, because galvanized steel and rubber accessories deteriorate before the expected lifespan of the new roofing is achieved. Just say, NO! to galvanized steel and rubber accessories on your roof. Galvanized steel and rubber will not last the test of time in Hawaii. Galvanize will rust out and rubber will dry rot and crack before the expected lifespan of a new roof is reached.

Pre-painted aluminum roofing items:

• Drip edge
• Side wall step flashing
• Skylight curbs
• Chimney flashing
• Roof to wall flashing
• Even un-painted aluminum fan vents will last the lifespan of a new roof

Upgrades to aluminum are copper and lead accessories, but they come with a higher material cost. The expected life span for aluminum is about 50 years. The expected life span of copper and lead is over 75 years. Galvanize can be expected to rust out in 25 years or less, especially in wet or salt air environments.

Choose a quality roofing contractor that uses quality materials when installing your roof or you could be paying for another roof sooner rather than later.
